Forbes measured asking prices for condos and houses. Not co-ops and not rents.

In 1996 jonathan kozol, in "amazing grace" one of his many excellent books, cited that, here in NYC, one could get on the subway at 59th and Lex, the wealthiest zip code in the nation, and ride 16 minutes to Mott Haven, the poorest.

Yikes, I always thought that the poorest zip codes in the country were Native American reservations. So much for the legendary New York "safety net" which went goes back to the days of Al Smith. I supported welfare reform but I don't think it says great things about a city with so much wealth to have the poorest zip code in the nation. Hopefully things have changed greatly in the past 15 years.
