Discussion about One Brooklyn Bridge Park at 360 Furman Street in Brooklyn Heights
I was just about to put in an offer on a unit prior to the Hurricane. I now hear from a reliable source that the building has sustained a lot of damage including destroyed electrical switchgear, a damaged boiler and significant sheetrock damage. I have no doubt that all will be fixed but I am wondering what impact (if any) this will have on future maintenance or special assessments. Also concerned about rising insurance rates on the building as my lender is now requiring more insurance than typical. Love the building but hesitant to buy before knowing all the facts. Any insight from current residents or other potential buyers is appreciated.

Ah, I forgot about Todt Hill. Anyway, most of Manhattan holds up pretty well in those Armageddon maps someone posted the link to. It's only the very edges of the island here and there that are sea level. I didn't realize Manhattan had so much altitude. Also had forgotten how much of the East Bronx is flood prone. There's an area surounding Marble Hill that used to be the Harlem River and was filled in at the same time they straightened out the Sputen Duyvil inlet. I wonder how that area fared. I don't think there's much housing there, but isn't there a big school down there?
forgot to mention, NWT - I have often had the same question you posed, whether anyone does maintenance on the steel supports of those pre-War apartment houses hanging off the eastern edge of Hudson Heights - I thought of bridges too
Plan for Brooklyn Bridge Park Velodrome on Pier 5 Falls Apart
"Among the costly problems were concerns about flooding given Hurricane Sandy..."
Instead of a velodrome, there'll be a garage for park maintenance equipment, storage for recreational boats, and restrooms.

pinkpanther is posting on another discussion thread, asking about buying a unit in the building discussed therein.
The Gambino mafia contractor/former friend of RAL was spared a prison sentence by the Fed. judge ruling on his trial.
The contractor worked to do post-hurricane Sandy clean-up in his community and the surrounding community.
Is now facing only 300 hours of mandated community service and five years' probation.
Which is more community service than RAL will ever do for OBBP.
So, the Gambino contractor now is free, without ratting-out RAL.
The future may hold other unwelcome surprises for RAL.
Any updates to 360 furman street?
