So I got this email telling me I was becoming an Insider and they were going to charge the same credit card that I used when I was actually an Insider, before I cancelled. Has this happened to anyone else? Needless to say, I canceled my account again.

The reverse happened to me: I am an insider but SE just stopped recognizing me as such. I am emailing SE to sort it out.

streeteasy is a petty bunch.
Are you in or out?
Are you grey or not grey?
Ask them a simple question and they get really uptight about it.
