Discussion about 208 East 28th Street #3D
#1A was built as a one-bedroom (11x16 BR) and that's how shares were allocated. Later on somebody split the BR in two and put in a door to the LR.
this is two 1 br apartments. the larger one, on 1st floor, was broken out to make 2 tiny bedrooms.
Thank you!!
NWT, how do you know this? Are you looking at any particular historical records, or just see by the floorplan yourself?
Check the floorplans at http://streeteasy.com/nyc/building/208-east-28-street-new_york/floorplans
#3A has the same footprint, but without the wall. Except for #1A, almost every bedroom in the building is about 11x16, and closet(s) for every bedroom have been standard in NYC for at least a century.
If you go see #1A, tap on the walls. I'd bet the one between the bedrooms will sound hollow, reflecting the couple hundred bucks worth of studs and sheetrock they're trying to parlay into an extra-bedroom premium.
Also note how the door and door-frame molding for the second bedroom don't match the rest of the doors.
(The french doors to LR don't either; they were also added later.)
Ah, so it was a bit of sleuthing on your part. Thank you for the investigation :)
