Discussion about
But sometimes even Dolly Lenz, who’s been called 'Jaws' for her aggressive tactics, can’t get the deal done. As she told CNBC: “One of my most challenging days was the day I had to take Mariah Carey for her board interview for the potential purchase of Barbra Streisand’s apartment. It took seven months to get her a board interview. “ Lenz said she advised the singer to dress soberly for her... [more]

Definitely dumbass celebs. Who the hell wants Mariah Carey in their building? She's a big old bag of craisins.

Does anyone remember the scene in Who's That Girl when Madonna is interviewed by a stuffy Fifth Avenue co-op board? Classic film.

Celebrities are just so awful. I wouldn't even want to live in the same city as them, let alone the same building.

Nice to see just how up on things the board is.

"They thought she was being flippant..." Yeah, right.

What happened is that they were embarrassed from being caught at being so out of touch, & the great response Mariah gave.

I would've given the same one, & I'm sure this is what really steamed them, childishly lashing back by saying she was flippant.

This board sounds like the type who still haven't gotten over the deaths of Lawrence Welk & Guy Lombardo.

The bottom line is, the ideal occupants for a co-op would be Ann Frank & her family. No noise, no visitors, no cooking odors, never be seen, never complain...sheer ECSTACY for a co-op board...until it inevitably bothers them, of course, that they're always getting Fresh Direct deliveries & don't show up at annual meetings or vote proxies...OY! Who needs this?!?

Ha!

Madonna: Knock, knock

Co-op Board Member: Who's there?

Madonna: Boo.

Co-op Board Member: Boo who?

Madonna: Don't cry! We'll take the apartment.

Oh, sure, until the Sturmabteilung bursts through the door with a search warrant shouting "Papieren!" and scaring off all present and future renters!

This is where stubborn stupidity meets stubborn stupidity. The end result usually is: nothing.

In most walks of life, people generally shift their demeanor to suit their surroundings. If you have to go to court, you wear something formal/official. If you are a female playing squash, you wear a short skirt. If you're in a library, you shut up. If you're on the bus, you step aside. Even if you want to make a good impression at a dinner party, you present yourself in a different way. It's not being fake, it's how people operate.

Now here we have two groups of people who think they are above and beyond everyone else: coop boards and celebrities. Celebs live a life where people do whatever they want, and they get whatever they want. Result? They think they can get away with XYZ. Coop boards reject whoever they feel for whatever they feel. The result? No sale (not like the board cries their eyes out over this). So, when both act stubbornly in this way, we have two immovable objects. The result is that nothing happens: the building doesn't get $10.5 million, and Mariah doesn't get an apartment. I doubt either one really cares (except for losing face) -- there are plenty of other million-/billionaires, and there are plenty of other million dollar apartments. The time wasted deserved by both of them, IMO.

Well Dolly clearly failed her job here. Superhero multiple blackberry holding giving birth woman to get the deals done and she can't explain with any persuasion to a board that a client is just stating a fact?

huntersburg: As if Dolly is worried about that comment.

Mariah did just fine buying a condo at Franklin Tower:
She got a piece of the one million dollar restitution from RAL ordered by the Attorney General.
After the leaks from the windows, a/c system, replacement of insufficient fireproofing and the bricks falling off the building's facade; she's still there.

Why would a COOP board take 7 MONTHS to give someone a board interview that you clearly know can afford the place ?? Does it really take that long for a background check ? Who were they really PHUKIN OVER ??

Did you see the stack of paper work that had to be handed in for the Dakota? What the hell can they ask you that you need to hire a truck to bring in the paper work?

Why are you crying for Mariah Carey?

Of all the problems in the world, you are worried about her $10 million co-op?

@ Greenday ... who's crying for Mariah ? Why don't you ask yourself why on earth they made her wait 7 months to then be clueless about BLACK PEOPLE at the interview ?

And I'm sure if a white concert pianist tried to buy the same co-op, the board woulld have been just as agressive in the interview...
