Discussion about
Just checking to see if anyone has had an experience w/this company. They appear to have good listings in Manhattan for 1 & 2 bedrooms, furnished - short term. They charge 20% of entire rent. OR does anyone have a company they've used & been happy with. This is for April and May.

scumbags. artificially raise asking rents for these short terms rentals so that they include a fee that is then paid to the broker.

NO ONE does short term rentals for 20% of the term, and you should know better than to bargain hunt.

Beware of scumbag and shady brokers. I don't know about MMG, but be careful of agents trying to badmouth other ones trying to sway you towards them.... They are usually the most shady.

And bargain hunt all you want. It is unusual, but finding a good deal is definitely possible. Make sure time is on your side and don't be pressured.

Do you like repeating yourself?

Did I say you were soliciting any business? Did I say if you ever did?

afinelyne,
A good way to spot a shady broker is when they advise against doing other ways of research and self-education and find things that will make them less money (ie, when you don't do what they say).

Sounds like you have a lot of first hand experience with how shady brokers work. What firm are you with cunt?

Thank you all.....I have appointment to see 3 tomorrow. Maybe this will all be over then! Will let you know. Must say - appreciate all the warnings and caution not to 'cheap out' at this stage in the move.

Just know that you if you use mmg, the listed rent for the apartment will include a kick-back to the broker, in addition to their 20% fee.

also, they will not show you co-broke listings. they can't with their fee model.

good luck.

Jimmyboy, who said I'm with a firm?
And by your foul language you seem upset. Not getting enough commisions still? Dont bring your frustration here.... Perhaps be less sleazy in your work practices... might yield better results for you?

afinelyne,
Don't cheap out, but don't be pressured. If you have time, let yourself find a good deal. You'll know when you see one after you've seen MANY apartments. 3 might be fine, but 30 might be fine too. I remember finding an amazing 2BR rental in prime Brooklyn Heights for HALF market price. Patience is your best asset and ammunition, and a sleazy broker's most hated attribute.

Sonya_D, attack no_cojones wherever you like, but please have the decency to leave his wrists alone. He needs to be able to turn the key in the lock to make a living. Or try to make a living, anyway.
