Structural solutions for footfall / footstep noise

Has anyone had a successful experience on a project to mitigate footfall / footstep noise? Any references for soundproofing experts / consultants who would specialize in this and come recommended? For the last year my upstairs neighbor and I have had a constant issue where I can pretty much hear every footstep in their apartment (though no higher-pitched noises) and they can hear bass from my... Soundproof his floor and split the cost. You'll actually be the primary beneficiary for as long as you live there, and it really wont increase his resale value, so you'd have to figure that out. Plus the inconvenience of ripping up his floor. But that's the only real way. I have similar pains...
