Negotiating broker fees

Discussion about
As a first time buyer (reading up on, but ultimately unfamiliar with the buying process) and with the market being hot, is it reasonable to negotiate the standard 6% broker fee? How do I even go about doing this?

as a buyer it makes no difference, the 6% is the fee collected by the listing broker. If you have a broker representing you, then he/she gets 3%. If you go unrepresented, the listing broker gets the entire 6%

Some smaller firm brokers etc will only give 5%, others do 4%---but it's on the listing end that matters, not the buying end.
