What is obnoxious about this building is its segregation of condo owners and renters. The developers consciously planned for the rental side of the building to be "less than" - no security guard, a separate entrance with a small lobby (the address is officially "1481 Fifth Avenue"), and cheap-looking decor in common areas. In other municipalities, such segregation would not be allowed. What brought home how obnoxious this is: last week (4/14/13)intruders were on the rental side, banging on residents' doors and demanding money. When residents phoned the security guard for help on the 1485 side of the building (and part of the SAME DEVELOPMENT), they were told to just call 911 -- they would not lift a finger. Do any housing and/or community activists reading this site have any suggestions for organizing, protesting, etc.? If so, thanks in advance. [less]
The buyers pay more money and as such, they receive premium service. I apologize for the inconvenience, but the doorman are not permitted to apprehend intruders, as that is far fromt their primary job function and could leave them open to severe litigation.
