My boyfriend and I are looking to rent a one-bedroom apartment in the East Village / Gramercy Park area starting August 1. We'd like to find a place for $2200 or less, which I know is theoretically possible, but my search is complicated for several reasons: - We currently live in Memphis and it's unlikely we'll be able to see any places in person before actually moving to NYC. - We have a dog, and she's not small. - We will be paying for my rent entirely with student loans, and I've found little information online about how that usually goes over with landlords. We have considered subletting for the month of August and trying to find a place before September 1, but would rather get things settled up front. I'm not totally opposed to going through a broker, but would like to avoid fees if possible. Thanks in advance for any advice. [less]
