If a board member requests a leave of absence or resigns midterm, what does the board do...are they able to fill that position OR do they disregard that vote?

If more than a few months until the next election, our board appoints someone. E.g., someone who ran before but lost, or a former board member, or someone who wants to be useful.

Don't know whether those by-law provisions are typical, though.
