Discussion about Bel Canto Condominium at 1991 Broadway in Lincoln Square
I looked here and did not like what I saw. Apartments were on the smaller side , more on par the rentals I've seen both in size and the way the apartments were finished. Building has very few amenities and the apartments lack washer/dryers. I don't the know the history of the building but judging from the layouts this could easily have been a rental building.
It was built as a condo. Windows run up to the ceiling, so bright rooms. The lot is only 50' wide, so the few apartments per floor are shallow rather than deep. No cave effect, as with buildings where depth from windows to core is 25-30'.
It predates the disability laws, so bathrooms aren't big enough to spin a wheelchair in, as in newer buildings.
Come on, do you really want something built in the 1980s?
I lived there for about 6 months in an A-line unit. The amenities were slim, but the staff great. The elevators were quick, the laundry room while small, was quite sufficient for the number of apartments. Our apartment was definitely a 1980 special, with parquet floors, flimsy doors and poor finishes. But that's apartment-specific of course. I didn't like the PTAC units for heating or AC. But I did like the extra large, very bright windows. On nice days, we'd open windows on the front and back of the apartment and got a great breeze through the apartment. The location is great. It wouldn't be my top choice, but I wouldn't say there are any major red flags.
Thanks earo! Very helpful!
