Discussion about The Orwell House at 257 Central Park West in Upper West Side
The building went co-op in 1984; the board makes sure to know everything about every shareholder - potential ones as well as those in residence.
The board was recently cited for the installation of it's all-encompassing surveillance system, which monitors not only common areas, but the individual apartments themselves. They cannot be turned off, & shareholders have no say in the matter. There are, however, free weekly screenings of "Big Brother" in the residents lounge.
Board minutes are destroyed via a unique tube system which whisks them directly to the furnace. In the rare event they aren't, they're edited in any manner the board deems fit.
Hard to say what the residents are like, as they are strictly prohibited from discussing the building.
The managing agent also manages the Oceana condominium in Brighton Beach.
Hope this helps - best of luck.
Why do people feel the need to troll when others are only looking for some honest help or advice? Are their lives that empty? Obviously, I'm aware that co-ops can be considered invasive and/or controlling and aren't everyone's cup of tea, but to each their own...no wonder your comment was already automatically hidden, you sad little troll, I should have known better than to click "unhide"!
Not a problem; glad to be of service.
Also helpful is to check the DOB complaints. It will tell you how the building responds to issues as they come up. All buildings have complaints. Some more than others.
Walpurgis is not being a troll. S/he just adds a touch of ironic humor (in this case quite intelligent) that is or isn't to your taste. You obviously didn't get the joke. We have some real trolls on this site, if you hang out enough you will identify them very quickly.
I agree with NativeRestless.
Many thanks for your support NR & F; what's REALLY sad is not so much that someone doesn't get the satire, but that they get so bent out of shape so quickly, & the all too predictable lashing out begins. Is it panty twist season already? My, how time flies!
But it's all very telling: If they're that thin skinned, a co-op should be the last choice for their housing needs.
So Bigdaddyj, you f with walpurgis, you f with all of us. We are watching you.
