Once I heard they'd sold, I figured this was inevitable. I've never been positively impresses with Zillow so it's only to be expected that Zillow would drag StreetEasy down to their level.

This "new look" is completely ridiculous but after spending a few minutes trying to search, it also appears to be unusable. Like Kharby, this may be 'Goodbye'.

I concur -- this site is illegible! Previously you were able to see all of the information for a building in a clear and concise way; currently the layout is confusing and requires too many click throughs. PLEASE OH PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK! What was once my favorite real estate resource may soon be discarded.

The old site was perfect. Please let us have the option to switch back.

All building information used to be on a single easy to read page and are now separated into 4 different tabs. All building sales and rentals are lumped together in the building activity tab with no clear way to separate them. It's no longer clear what link to click on to get to an actual listing, usually leading me to jump around a few pages. I can no longer print a floor plan from the listing?? I have to copy paste and print it in MS paint?? Dates are no longer in numerical format???? This is the biggest wtf. Are they to change prices to 'one million four hundred and fifteen thousand'? The map search is barely functional compared to the old one. I can no longer sort by sales price or sales dated. And a minor note, the new font and color scheme seem make the page bland and difficult to catch what you are looking for. It's clear that the new interface was not designed for or by real estate professionals, they wanted to make it pretty.

Agreed-- the fonts are stupidly large, not enough info is easily visible anymore. Too many clicks to find data. What's supposed to be better about this? I guess it's a little prettier, but vastly less usable.

the great thing about the old format is how it packed a huge amount of info into one page. You would visit Sales for examples and see different sections with new listings, closed sales, etc. The new format shows almost nothing on one page making it inefficient and tedious to use.

There's a trend among website designers for more "air" and space on the page.

That's what happened here, only in extremis. It's actually boring to look at now.

And I miss the "recent price changes" link, both for Manhattan and Bklyn. That gave a good snapshot of the market.

I might pull my insider sub. Why would they change the design at all? It was actually one of the better info-websites around. I used to point people to it as a good example of seeing lots of data points at a single glance.

Sad.

This happens quite frequently when companies are bought.

The fact is Streeteasy was different because the manner and wealth of information really benefited the buyer, where every other site is pedestrian and generally are more benfit to the seller.

Some time ago I made corrections to my apt on Zillow and pointed out mistakes in other properties for them to correct.
Bad mistakes, like an apartment in Queens being used as a comp in Chelsea, etc.
No responses, no changes, no nothing.

Quite frankly I always thought a brokerage would buy SE to "get rid" of a tool that was costing brokerage houses a lot of money, and make it go away.
It looks like Zillow will do it for them.

Hey better for me in the end, my next transaction will be as seller instead of buyer anyway.

Craigslist seems to be the only website that "gets it."

This redo has a softer, "seller" type of look.

I agree! The new site doesn't work. If you want to check a specific address, the line provided for it at the bottom of the page doesn't work. If you click on one listing and then want to go back to the full list, you are taken back to the very beginning of the list, not where you left off. That forces you to wade through the entire list all over again. Sorry but the new site has been very poorly thought out and implemented.

For starters...
Cannot separate sales from rentals.
Cannot click on address from anywhere to go back to main page of that address.
Cannot see current listings on the same page as historical listings.
No Citibike or flood zone data (Equinox I don't miss) on maps. Now I have to waste time going to citibikenyc.com and floodsmart.gov website. I guess SE is trying to save money by reducing the amount of data it has to analyze.

If SE did a website usability study the result would be SE classic ==> The old site was better and more user friendly!

I think Zillow underestimates the sophistication of the NYC buyer.

The risks of alienating your user base seems very high with this type of drastic site redesign (ie Digg). I work on Wall Street and this type of move by a public company seems very poorly thought out.

Streeteasy was the best site by far and catered to a very distinct, sophisticated market. I might start using Streeteasy going forward if the data it provides is worthwhile. But to my eye, it looks like a watered down version - I can't find the data I'm looking for like prior psf data and prior listing info, etc. It's like the person who designed this site has zero idea of how real estate in NYC is different than in Topeka.

I really don't like the new site and will look for something better going forward.

There has to be a strategic collusion between the brokerages and SE because nobody can be this stupid about who the consumer of the original SE was.
