It is very unfortunate that the new layout omits the "Custom Boundary" feature. I used this feature daily. Does anyone know of another site that offers a similar option?

Dear Streeteasy,

You have made an error. It is ok. Just switch it back and swallow your pride.
The new interface is terrible. But you can learn from this and move on.
Just bring back the old version.

Sincerely,
me and every broker I know in NYC

The new format sucks. It has gone from a site that was great to use to crap. I gonna go back to the times. The morons who bought you have reduced the value of their purchase immediately. I'm buyng some puts on Zillow tomorrow, because with management this bad, a stock price decrease should be inevitable.

With all the changes made - what about us grays? Will there be at least a new color scheme?

I was thinking of one that would cover the full spectrum, the colors corresponding to the posters known comment pattern, ranging from white for the most valuable, on-topic ones (i.e., Front Porch, UWS Beagle), all the way to deep indigo for the most bizzarre, sick, twisted & darkly humorous ones (myself, Truth, etc.).

So how 'bout it, SE? It's the LEAST you could do for us!!!

Yes, I guess it was inevitable after the take-over, despite indications that Streeteasy would be left relatively in place as it was. The new site is terrible; the old site couldn't have been any better; it was my go-to site, not so much now. It's just kind of ho-hum, not concise, doesn't seem as comprehensive.

An option to choose between the "classic" and "new and improved" versions would be great, at least for Insiders! Why not keep the existing loyal Streeteasy fans?

Zillow is not interested in StreetEasy's ( I hate to even call it that anymore; it seems wrong.) "insider" subscriptions. I don't believe that we are even on their radar. It may seem crazy to be all "grassy knoll", but it appears as if there might be more to this than simply an awful redesign. Why-oh-why would you buy StreetEasy and then kill it's best practices functionality?

We sincerely appreciate all of your feedback on the redesign as we continue to work out a few kinks. Your comments are very important to us, and we rely on our users to give us constructive criticism on the new site. We're confident that the new layout will make StreetEasy an even more powerful real estate tool in the long run. In the meantime, we will do our best to answer your questions, and address your concerns. Thank you so much for your patience during this period of transition.

Sorry, Streeteasy - that's not good enough. Please restore the old system so we can function. You can take all the time you need to redesign the site, but wait until you have a good product to provide before you launch. My guess is that you will loose your user base and that someone else will step in and do a better site soon enough.

Agreed - and here I was thinking - am I the only one who hates this new design?
In addition to many of the other annoying changes that have already been mentioned here - how about the fact that they took away the ability to search by total monthly payment? That was a truly useful, differentiating feature on StreetEasy - after all, an apt @ $300k w/ $2k maintenance is not cheaper than one at $400k w/ $700 maint - it was the way I always searched. I even wrote in about it, and got a form letter response, suggesting I let them know what functionality I'd like to see returned...um...how about the one I just EMAILED about?

Soooo frustrating to use this site now. Did they even try their new platform with current users???

Anybody have any recommendations for a better site to use for R/E research now?

This is a perfect example of a company buying something because its popular, and then changing the thing that made it popular to begin with! The new sight is LESS user friendly and WORSE at filtering. Zillow needs to change it back and let streeteasy do what it did best. If not, they are going to kill the golden goose!

@streeteasy, the new layout adds absolutely nothing to the functionality of your site. It is completely unnecessary. It has taken tasks that were once simple and intuitive and made them frustrating and complex. You have actually removed features. It's like taking the steering wheel on a Mercedes and putting it under the seat, removing a wheel and saying "look how much better this car is!"

I'm all for change but this new site is awful. I went to the discussion page and wanted to go back so I hit the Streeteasy sign on top and it brought me back to the front page again. Then I got back onto the discussion page again and tried it hitting the back button. Again it went back to the front page. Like what else do I hit to stay on the discussion page. I loved the old layout because everything was there on the front page...discussion boards, open houses, stats on condos, etc.

This is really just not functional. I didn't use Streeteasy before because I wanted some cute infographics while scrolling endlessly for scraps of relevant information. I used it because it provided a lot of information in a very fast, efficient format.
I never liked using Zillow because it always looked totally useless with the amount of effort one had to put in to extract information. Now you are really hurting the functionality of Streeteasy?
This is not about a community of people complaining because they don't like change. It is about Zillow gutting the functionality of Streeteasy for no discernible reason. There are no upgrades, no clever new way of looking at information, not even an acceptable aesthetic upgrade to the site.

I was paying $10/mo NOT to use zillow for my casual browsing of the market. Now, what's the point?

I wonder if this is the new StreetEasy CEO Susan Daimler (see curbed article about StreetEasy 2.0) trying to make her mark? If so she is making a huge mistake. You don't launch a major re-design of a much loved website like StreetEasy like this. This is how it should go:

1. Solicit community input
2. Release screenshots/teasers gradually.
3. Release the new site in parallel, in pieces if possible. Allow people to try out the 'new' streeteasy and switch back. Then when everything is sold switch over.

StreetEasy competitors are probably enjoying this sliver of a chance they have now. Time to mea-culpa, switch back to the old design and then run the new design in parallel for a while.

Holy sh&t! I was vacation and come back to this?!? This was exactly what I was afraid of happening to streateasy... and it has happened.

Changes were made to kill the site... all that hard work done by the founders go down the drain. And all for a measly $50 million split between how many people? I feel bad for you guys, but not that bad since you agreed to "all this mess" by selling and selling low and without some sort of claus to protect yourself against this company "suicide".

Bye bye StreatEasy... will continue to visit for a month to see if changes occur and to see your downfall. I feel bad for the average joe workers though... Didn't get a fat buyout check during the sale of website, and now will be getting a pink slip.

I've cancelled my subscription, not that it probably interests you anyway. You have other sources of revenue now.

I've worked with this format for several days now and waited to chime in. While certainly
'cleaner` it's very ineffectual as a platform for a true searcher (person looking daily for an apartment). Worst is the now missing link to the actual realtors site. It was a workhorse platform - now I feel like it's fluff - there is less information on the screen. I worked in non-profits for years - we hated to fund the things that were always true - like support groups - we wanted to fund - interesting exciting new things - it took 30 years for the culture to revert to appreciating that sometimes the good old is exactly what people need. If you need something closer as a metaphor - look into the NY Times real estate section. I fear you have made a mistake - I hope I find my apartment soon so I can stop paying you $10 a month for LESS. Sexier - not always better.

I have an opinion about this: it is possible that they actually want to increase the time that each of us has to stay on the website in order to get the same information. This way they will be able to tell that the new website has increase the average time x% for each session and ask more for adversting. Just an idea.

“The utility of StreetEasy is so high we forget how dated the site had become,” said Jason Haber, CEO of Rubicon Property, who said the old site design was reminiscent of the 1990s Internet, when AOL was the ubiquitous brand. “I’m sure there will be grousing from some who long for the old layout, but the time had come for a revamp. Now they have great data and a great site.”

I guess it's Backwards Day.

The redesign looks like internet 1.0 (the big prominent tabs that look like old-fashioned folders from the file room, etc.) ... the old one looked perfectly modern.

ALL functionality has been reduced or gutted under the demolition (and that's what it is, not a redesign). None has been added. None, zero, zilch.

And whether the demolition is the fault of Zillow people or not, the response (or near total lack thereof) here and in the media seems like it's been guided by the North Korean government's PR agency. Total disconnect from reality.

We are actually pretty nice people who do listen. We still have many kinks to work out, especially with IE, and certainly want to make sure that all of the info from the old site is accessible. We absolutely understand that some people are having trouble, and that's the last thing we want. And yes, of course we want feedback, so keep it coming.

We've had many months to work with the new design, we use the site every day, and we like it. We hope you will too.

So by popular demand ;-)

Before StreetEasy became so amazing with all the market info in such a compact space, I was all over OLR.com. I would truly hate to loose such an amazing thing to a buyout by a large company.

I don't think Zillow understands how New Yorkers are!! We want our info now, fast, reliable and accurate. We do not need a fancy site to sit a scroll through, with eye catching font and "larger photos" brokerage sites porivde those for us in NYC. Streeteasy is our website for information.
Zillow if you take this away and change it, a lot of people with stop using this website. OLR.com still provides all this info without the bs you tried to serve us last week.
Thank you for putting up the old site, but if it changes......

ADIOS!

I also truly hate the new format which provides less information. Perhaps one of the worst irritants is that you no longer have the option to see the property location in Google Maps. Your new map provides a tiny box which is worthless for zeroing in on a neighborhood and with google maps I could go right into a neighborhood in street view and walk around the neighborhood and get a feel for what was actually around. Forget satellite view since the map is now so tiny. ZIllow, you took a great product and turned it into a piece of fluffy junk!

I think SE should experiment in lesser markets, like C0lumbia C0unty, before rolling out to NYC.
