Discussion about
A family member is considering purchasing a one or two bedroom apartment in North Shore Towers in Douglaston, Queens. Does this development have mainly an older population? Has anyone ever owned or sublet in this development?
Definitely an older population. It's like a self contained city with golf and movies. Could be a good move, but .like you said, older population. That has to be what you want.
Riversider, it does seem like a self-contained community with underground shopping. The maintenance on the units are very high because of all the buses they run to various locations. For some reason, I thought this was a building with mainly an older population but someone told me that they heard there are many families who live in North Shore Towers. Just wondered if anyone has ever lived in this development.
With so many units, I'm sure there are some families, but it is primarily an older community.
Miami Beach North.
One thing to consider about "older" communities and buildings is ... by definition over time that will change. It may be sad but there will be vacancies. In my own experience moving with kids into an older building can be very good. Depends on the older people and their tolerance for kids. Mostly they love having the kids around. Their own grandkids are probably older, or they don't come around, and kids are good for old people. And old people are good for kids.
And those buses to the grocery store, etc can also be a boon for a mom with two kids in a stroller. (Conjecture on my part.)
Nice golf course too
My parents recently moved in as they are snowbirds and finally got rid of their empty nest.
It's convenient for many of the things already mentioned.
It does seem like a lot of seniors live there but there are younger families there for sure.
I had at least 3 classmates from high school (80s) who lived there at the time as well.
My mother loves the underground shopping.
If it matters, keep in mind one of the three towers doesnt allow any pets.
The towers though do have some age on them now.
Thanks truthskr. It actually sounds like the right community for my family member. She is expecting that the apartment might need some work if the previous owner was a long term resident. And that is helpful to know that 2 of the 3 towers do allow pets.
