Mott Haven and the South Bronx

Personally, I think the Bronx as a whole has a whole lot of potential. I don't think the South Bronx is quite ready for "prime time" but if I had money to invest long term that is exactly where I would put it. Transportation to midtown is abundant and there is a lot of interesting looking housing stock in various areas of the Bronx including six story art deco buildings with elevators, single family homes and tenements that can be updated or event converted to "townhouses". There is a lot of subsidized housing in the borough which assures that the Bronx will never suffer the fate of Manhattan or "prime" Brooklyn and will retain its ethnic and economic diversity.

The first places I would look are the Grand Concourse near Yankee Stadium and Spuyten Devil (mispelled) south of Riverdale overlooking the Harlem and Hudson Rivers. Subway transit is less convenient in the latter location (there is Metro North) but the views are amazing.
