Hi, Was wondering if anyone can comment what would be appropriate to pay per foot for a new wood floor installation in Manhattan not including the price of materials. Got a quote of $5.75 Thanks.
What kind of wood flooring? Does it include a subfloor? Does that include sand, stain and poly?
Wideplank oak pre finished. No subfloor. Got a quote of 2.75 from Carlos the floor guy someone recommended on an older post
Also are there any disadvantages to doing prefinished floors?
There are always pros and cons to everything. What manufacturer are you using? Why not engineered flooring?
$2.75 is a very good price. ApHow are they installing yet?
I found a reference from an old poster recommending Carlos at CarlosWoodFloors. I am sure happy I did. He did a fantastic job and was half the price of the first quote I got. His number is (646) 418-0925. He even squeezed my job in right before the holiday.
One bit of advice on engineered floors: choose the kind that can be refinished up to three times, as opposed to the kind that have a "lifetime" finish or a 50 year finish but cannot be refinished.
We discovered after installation that the "lifetime/50 year" finish floor show scratches much more than the kind that can be refinished, which appears like a plank board floor to the casual observer, and which we had installed in another room.
Otherwise good underlayment is vital. Engineered hardwood is great if you're in a basement or other moist environment such as a bathroom, and/or if the subfloor is subpar.
