I'm guessing that it was originally 2 simplexes with the stair cut in later. A dumbwaiter would be a useful addition, I think, with kitchens on both floors, but they're not much favored, it seems.

The north apartment is a natural duplex, so it's possible that a south unit might have been built that way too.

Wow, that's a quick flip!
This was Sting's apartment (sold a few years ago) before he moved to 15CPW.

Right - and the original listing from when Sting owned it mentioned that it's a combination.
