Moving alone

Hi all, I am moving next month. I know this is an odd question. I have hired movers for my move. I am going to take the subway and meet them at the new place after they load up. How is this normally done? Do people ride with the movers? I am by myself. I have usually moved with a friend. One time we rode in the truck with the movers. I am not comfortable doing that by myself though. Thanks, any suggestions appreciated.
