Discussion about
I'm selling my house. When I email my lawyer about issues with the contract, sometimes he answers, but most of the time his secretary answers back (even though I'm emailing my lawyer, not his secretary). is the secretary allowed to answer emails (from the lawyers account)? or is that a breach of confidence?

It is not a breach of confidentiality. The agreement you no doubt signed with this attorney includes these kinds of communications.

I hate attorneys who do what yours is doing, by the way. It saves them a ton of money. But if it really is a legal question, as opposed to a clerical question, call the attorney.

From my experience... Secretaries/Assistants are always the main point of contact with lawyers... and sadly, I have dealt with many...

IMO, be happy someone is replying rather than a lawyer who will apply whenever he or she gets a chance which is worse... It sounds like you're going through a transactional deal.. in which case, most things are standard, and most questions can be handled by assistants...

If a lawyer can't be bothered with answering my "transactional" questions, then I can't be bothered with paying his higher fee. I'll pay for the secretary's rate.
