VIA 57 West horrible floor plans

One of the worst examples of starchitect "outside in" design -- the floorplans are all cut up, with crazy angles and columns wrecking any hope of reasonable furnishing plans. The studios are the worst, unless you like being able to do the dishes from your bed! What is wrong with architects?!

Why can not you live in the beautiful facade, shape, and common facilities? Inside of the apartment does not matter.

Lol @ $3257 (3800 gross at renewal) per month for 400 sq ft. in that location.

I bet they charge extra to let you use the gym too.

My biggest pet peeve is when they throw some appliances and cabinets against the wall and call it a kitchen. Though many new condos these days are trying to get away with "wall kitchens," for 1 and 2 BRs as well, not just studios. Those always get crossed off my list.

I appreciate everyone's sense of humor. But were I looking at ~$12K for a three bedroom like this one, I'd not laugh at the triangular living area with a kitchen wall dominating the negative space -- http://cdn-img0.streeteasy.com/nyc/image/36/216984736.jpg?_ga=1.109455949.976394169.1466278523
And speaking of negative space, how about bedroom 1, with all those negative corners and at most room for a queen bed askew to all other walls? Awful.

At $12k per month people will have a lot of other options, especially with all the luxury condos bought by investors and put back on the market as rentals. Maybe when they can't get the rent they want, they'll learn not to build apartments like this.

For example here's a 1465 sq ft 3 BR/3 BA you can rent directly from condo owner at no fee for $9k per month. Much closer to subway lines too. No pool in the building but you can always join Equinox in Columbus Circle or the new Templ by David Barton gym on 49th street for that.

Teich, The floor plan is indeed terrible. That is exactly the apartment I looked at before making the comment. It would have been a really nice 2 bed before they forced the third bedroom. However, in a rental, without the third bedroom people will not pay more than 8-9k per month. Good luck in your search.

Also, many people will use the third bedroom for a baby. So, it angled walls may not matter as much.

So much for Feng Shui.
But I don't know why anyone's complaining about the layout. If you walk this far west to live, you already lack judgment.

I had a completely different response. I loved the non-cookie cutter floorplans. I thought the kitchens were---generally, floorplans differ!---practical and handsome. The various nooks and angles suggested using the spaces in ways not dictated by the architect, but up to the user. Also, I thought the terraces were configured in ways that made them actually usable, unlike the empty balconies hanging off so many buildings.

Chacun a son gout Joandark, but come on, in the studios, even with "alcove", some cannot accommodate a full let alone queen bed against any wall without an adjacent door to the terrace (here: http://cdn-img0.streeteasy.com/nyc/image/16/214227516.jpg?_ga=1.221464400.976394169.1466278523 ) or that annoying column (here: http://cdn-img3.streeteasy.com/nyc/image/23/209118223.jpg?_ga=1.151750129.976394169.1466278523 ). Practical and handsome are not really the right adjectives if you're seeking to praise the floor plans -- how about idiosyncratic and unique! And absurd! And hahaha! to fieldschester, yes, this is such a schlep to any subway I guess the offered shuttle is mandatory.

what can I say. The first plan you link to has two doors to terrace. If one is difficult for you, just use the other. The second seems big enuf to me----and all those closets! I like it. And, it is certainly chacun a son gout, but I love the lobby with that amazing staircase and the really beautiful central courtyard. It feels bold and beautiful---refreshing after seeing too many L-shaped studios.

Teich, To my point earlier, some people live in common areas.

No. Only one is a door. The other other one that you think is a door is a "window." It should be obvious because the opening is too narrow for a door. It's half the width of the front and bathroom doors.

Want to buy multi-storey property or not, location issues are always a major factor when trying to occupy residential units, especially apartments. Make sure you buy an apartment that has good prospects based on its location. So the price will not fall dramatically when you intend to sell it one day. And find out whether the apartment you want to buy is flooded by interested people or not. biesterbos.nl
