Discussion about
Hi - We are in the middle of a big renovation and to make a long story short, our drywalls are now up and rough plumbing and electricity all done. In one kitchen, the gas range was "capped and removed." The expediter for the plumber schedules DOB visits. And he schedules the plumbing in two parts: the first part involves just checking to make sure that the cap and remove is compliant. As luck... [more]

THe problem is that the contractor can't do anything from now until approval, because he can't put tiles up since the inspector must be able to see how the plumbing is done. So precious time is wasted by waiting for this silly inspection.

Precious time is really not being wasted, would you rather someone not inspect the plumbing and have major problems down the road. It is true that many times the inspector doesn't come and the plumber self-certs. My plumber will not even do that, he wants the inspector to come to make sure everything is as it should be. When you fail an inspection it can take about two weeks for another one. It was also smart of them to make the two separate inspections

Thanks for clearing this up Primer05. It turns out, (I asked my own expediter to log on to check on DOB) that the inspection was actually a PASS! However, the confusing part is that the guy did leave two comments. And I think the Plumber wants to invite them back for inspection. Why re-inspect when this is a pass? All of this can be so stressful at time.

To be even more specific, the inspection shows that the result for "Final PL" is a PASS, but yet there are three open objections. So I guess I am very confused as to how to interpret that? Thanks again.

I have a question about the DOB process as well. I had to hire a second plumber after a mishap with the original plumber.. The new plumber filed an LAA to supersede the LAA filed by the original plumber. It was approved two weeks ago but the original LAA is still open. What do I need to do to get a sign off?

Arfie,

Your plumber needs to schedule an inspection. if your walls are already closed they should schedule it for a Friday afternoon. If the inspector does not come then they can close it out
