The president of the board of my condominium is blocking the certificate of occupancy procedure. Which we didn't have for 8 years. We had a management company during that time as well who didn't get it because of so many excuses. This management company was also robbing us and we... [more]

Sorry to hear of your troubles! Has your real estate attorney opined on the matter?

Wow, that sounds horrendous!! How come you have no power as a board member while he does? A lot of banks won't lend without a C of O, but some will.

How much were you paying your management company by the way? I have a few very incompetent ones as well.

Also, you refer to this U.S. as "America". What is your status here?
The condo prez, what country has he or she gone to? is it the person's country of heritage, or no? Does it have Western values?

I am sorry to hear about your problems, but this is something that your broker should have told you to get taken care of before putting the unit on the market.

milanom, You can get the temporary certificate of occupancy which is sufficient to get a bank to finance. If your building does not even have temporary CO, it is not a simple process. At least one month to get temporary assuming you had a temporary CO in the recent past. You need a competent expeditor hired by the building to give you precise answers. Permanent CO can take 3-6 months.

Tough to have neighbors, especially in a city like there where there are so many, aggressive and passive aggressive wannabe type A personalities around. Sad!

I had a sale blocked when I was the buyer. It turned out the board member causing the delays wanted to buy it for himself at a discount. Hopefully the other board members can work with you
