Discussion about
I would appreciate any recommendations for a tile installer. My contractor's installer did not do a good job in my bathroom (thick grout lines, a lot of lippage, chipped tiles). Don't want him anywhere near my back splash. Thank you.
Curious what your contractor says about the poor tile job. Grout width is usually specified. Perhaps it is better for you to work with your contractor to find a better tile installer as for a small job, it is hard to find some one good.
Agree with mercer, its difficult/time consuming to try to find a tile installer for a small job. Contractor should have better contacts. For next time around...if it does not look good on day one/two on install, and your eyes wont lie to you, have them rip it out and do it over. I have had this done a few times. Once on a poorly done backsplash. I was surprised the contractor had such a bad tile installer. Contractor called in a 2nd installer who knew how to do patterns.
Did you lose all the tiles in that were installed?
On the kitchen, it was a box pattern where the tiler did not miter the corners of a box design. But we had extra tile + we could buy additional at relatively low cost. On the bathroom in another install, It was a matter of a few tiles, but they were right at your eye level. We had them removed and replaced after 3 days. We kept looking at it and saying, "that does not look right" so we just bit the bullet and had them pulled and redone. You have to live with this, so always get it done right.
