Discussion about
I am moving into a coop and need to get homeowners insurance. Can anyone recommend some places to price out? Do they all offer insurance for coops or does it not matter if it's a coop or a condo or whatever? Thanks!

Not all insure coops. Not all insure Manhattan or even NYC. I find a good insurance agent is a God-send. One who is not affiliated with a particular insurer. They can shop around rates for you, get access to companies that don't deal directly with the public, help bundle your needs (e.g., auto & coop & second home) so as to save you money and consolidate billing, etc. As around work, family, neighbors. Someone should be able to recommend a good agent for you.

Some credit unions carry out discount homeowners insurance for both coop and condo.

Our insurance agent is Denis Miller of Long Beach -- he did a great job out there (a house is more complicated than an apartment, so it has three policies) and he does our stuff in the city too.

We live in a condo here, but if Denis doesn't do co-ops he'll tell you who does.

Go with whoever gives you auto insurance assuming they offer coop insurance.
