I am looking to rent a studio that has no gas stove. landlord doesn't want to install one. I don't know how to find out if there is a gas line into the apt? Also, is it legal to rent out apts with no gas lines in Manhattan? My other question is about the renovation work that the landlord has said it was done. They told me I would be the first person to rent he apt after "the renovation". From reviewing previous pics of the same unit when it was available for rent two years ago, I noticed that the unit in the pictures from two years ago , is almost the same, I didn't see any noticeable changes, how can I find out for sure if indeed the unit was renovated? can renovation be used as an excuse to de regulate the apt since the building is Rent stabilized? Last question, there is no water in the bathroom. Landlord says it is turned off and will be on when I start my lease. Is that normal? They denied my request to add that to the rider. I wanted to add there is running water in the bathroom and the fridge is in working condition. Thanks! [less]
Find another place.
Is there an electric stove? Landlord not required to provide a gas stove.
Who cares whether or not the unit has been renovated as long as you have inspected it and found it satisfactory? If your lease is for a stabilized apartment (which will be governed under the law as long as you are a tenant there) why would this be a concern for you?
Hot and cold running water is a legal requirement that landlords must provide. That is a given with any apartment lease. Odd that it was 'off' when you visited. Maybe they were working on the lines or could be some other issue (like crappy pressure) that they don't want to advertise.
They're not required to provide a fridge. It is standard that they do, but it is not a requirement. Did fridge work when you checked the unit?
Gotta say I agree with Stache on this one--sounds like too many concerns with this place.
