Discussion about The Van Dorn at 150 West 58th Street in Midtown
The Mayor seems determined to open a homeless shelter for 140 single men at 158 W. 58th Street in the Park Savoy Hotel, which is just a few doors down from this middle class rental building. After a lawsuit was brought to block the shelter, a New York trial court and an appeals court have given the city the green light. According to reports, all that is missing is a permit from a NY State agency. A coalition of local interests is so upset that they paid for billboards attacking the Mayor when he campaigned in Iowa. It is claimed that the Mayor only wants to locate this shelter here because the building backs up on a "billionaire" condo building on 57th St. The shame is that middle class residents are caught in the crossfire.

Only 250K people in manhattan voted in the last mayoral election.
And 1mm citywide out 4.6mm registered.
We have the mayor we deserve.
Maybe if there was an R next to his name instead of a D, he would get the grief he has earned.
let the billionaires to pay for it
It's the perfect place for a shelter.
How is this the perfect place for a shelter?
Truth: In total agreement. To paraphrase: We've met the enemy, and they are us.
