Discussion about
Everything in NYC is collapsing. Restaurants and shops are slowing down, mood is grim, and wealth and jobs are leaving the city. http://www.newgeography.com/content/00308-manhattan-sinking
Manhattan's sinking like a rock
into the filthy Hudson what a shock
they wrote a book about it
they said it was like ancient Rome
- Lou Reed from "Romeo Had Juliette"
Of course, the article goes on to say that Manhattan will re-invent itself in a better form without all the luxury. But you can't read so I wouldn't expect you to grasp this ..
Personally, I am kind of looking forward to this recession making Manhattan more affordable (which continues to be the only real advantage Chicago has over Manhattan) and clearly out some of the obnoxious hedgefunders as well as the Rufus' of the world, the graduates from third-tier-state schools who no doubt support them as assistants or in operations or other support/back office functions.
The New York I love is the one where I go to my local bodega to pick up some things and the guy gives me the local price and charges the fat midwesterner behind me 20% more for the same thing.
kspeak, you're right. NYC will reinvent itself as a poor man's city. This article directly contradicts posters like Prada_Addict, who keep insisting that NYC is the world's capital of wealth, luxury, and prestige.
wow kspeak... go back to your alphabet city bodega and make sure you carry a gun.
gun? huh?
P.S. - I don't live in Alphabet City
Rufus - you ran away from the other thread and what alanhart posted for you:

You have cities mixed-up. Poor Chicago is in a bad way. Worse than any of us here in NYC realized. perhaps we should take up a collection to help them out? Maybe we can have Rufus go there and kill a few of the giant rats that are roaming the streets in Streeterville, Gold Coast, Lincoln Park and the other neighborhoods that have been run into the gutter.
Great song, 407.

Well, post a fact and rufus will run the other way...
... and post more nonsense on another thread until proved wrong again
