Barbara Corcoran doesn't even own The Corcoran Group anymore, so its not like she is gaining anything from it. I know of at least 3 properties that she has bought in the last 6 months...I'll take my advice from the true expert and try to make some deals in this market.

LOL.

Why is Bernie Ebbers in jail and Ken Lay dead after the WorldCom and Enron scandals laid waste to the economy during the tech bubble, but Barb Corcoron and her thousands of bubble-headed accolytes ("Buy! Buy! Buy!") are not? Why isn't David Lereah of the NAR swinging from a tree? Why hasn't regulation mandated an opening of the MLS, and a strong ethics component to broker certifications? Finally, why aren't brokerage fees down to 1.5% from 6%?

Answer: They WILL BE. All these things will come to pass in the aftermath of the greatest fiscal disaster in US history.

One question for Mr. Lereah: Does he prefer oak or maple?

any firm that takes a 1.5% commission won't be able to keep there doors open and anyone who has tried to sell or buy knows that the MLS is outdates and never updated...therefore useless!!!

Streetwise - you are a broker, aren't you? You know how I know? It's not that immediate, knee-jerk reaction against lower commissions, which are light-years overdue. No, it's that, by its own admission, something like 85% of the NAR membership did not graduate college. And, judging by your grammar ("keep there doors open") I have a sneaking suspicion you fall into this category.

Run back to the little rock realtors crawl out from under, run back with the news that your soon-to-be hungry co-conspirators, former secretaries and hair-dressers all, need to understand: In an era of heightened scrutiny and regulation surrounding real estate and mortgage lending, your time.

Is.

Almost.

Up!

"something like 85% of the NAR membership did not graduate college." OOOW! This is a pet peeve of mine. Not solely for NAR members, but for society in general. Even sadder is that, assuming such persons did graduate college, the colleges from which they graduated had curricula equivalent to that of a high school. I have found that many such people have almost no knowledge of (or desire to learn) history or liberal arts. The dumbing down of America.

"Some of the dumbest people I know are academians!"
Agreed {think you mean 'academics'}

"EQ is so much more important that IQ!!"
Also agreed

But, book learnin' never hurt no one and those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

Edit: Those who don't know history don't know whether or not they're repeating it.

Admiral...may I ask why you are making assumptions about my profession and education while throwing insults out at me? Is there something that I said to make you so upset to have to do that?

"may I ask why you are making assumptions about my profession and education while throwing insults out at me?"

LOL. This is like a Nazi stormtrooper asking an american soldier in 1943 "why are you insulting me??".

You see, it's like this, sweetie: The entire civilized world is on the brink of depression. A large reason for that is a confluence of self-serving groups - the NAR, mortgage brokers, and certain politicians who for reasons involving self-interest wanted to subsidize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac beyond the point where doing so would not have repercussions to the general economy. On top of that, this board is REPLETE with stories of "realtor tricks" -- so much so, in fact, that it would seem that members of your profession, on the whole, are held in less regard than drug dealers and prostitutes. In addition, the statement I made about 85% of the NAR membership not goign to college is not only correct, but comes from the NAR itself! Finally, your own grammar gives testimony to your intellect (or lack of same).

These are but a few of the reasons I feel comfortable insulting you, and your illegitimate profession. Soon, you will be regulated, the dirty tricks will be punishable by law, and you and your community college dropout peers will go back to being secretaries.

Wait a minute, did you just equate real estate agents with Nazis? That is just repugnant. Regardless of what you think of real estate agents, and I don't quite hold them as a group in the high regard, but populations vary, but comparing them to Nazis is absolutely repugnant, not to mention insulting to Jews and other groups who were targeted by Nazis for death. DEATH. Just repugnant your attitude and your words.

"Wait a minute, did you just equate real estate agents with Nazis? That is just repugnant."

Um, if you would actually READ the post, you would see that I did not compare realtors to Nazis. No way. For example, I am unaware of any realtors actually plotting to kill anyone. Wouldn't that require some order of intelligence? The smartest realtor would be waaaaaaaay too dumb to be that dangerous.

However, in their gross selfishness and stupidity, realtors DID bring upon the U.S. this plague of Great Depression II that is rapidly setting in. And so, people hate realtors for bringing this disaster that has disrupted everyone's lives upon us, in much the same way that American soldiers in WWII resented those germans who brought upon them the war that disrupted everyone's lives in the 1940's. That's the analogy I was making, and at least one other poster seems to have gotten it, Video. I'm sorry you did not.

UPDATE: former german national socialist party members, please stop emailing me complaining about being compared to such a self-serving and stupid lot as realtors. As Video rightly points out, you are a repulsive lot and you DESERVE to be suffer a comparison to such imbeciles as realtors. So there!

Admiral, you denied the comparison and then you re-made it. I don't care if you think you are trying to be funny, but your words are repugnant, and now that you've been given a second chance and said this again, it shows you are a repugnant human being. How dare you.

"you are a repugnant human being. How dare you."

What if I compared them to Mongols? Huns? Viking berzerkers? How far back in history do we have to go to find a now extinct group of evil-doers with whom you would be OK with someone comparing realtors to? You're an idiot. Grow-up. You shouldn't be worried about nazi's - there are no more Nazi's. You should be worried about nazi-like behaviors - group-think, a disconnection between one's actions and the people those actions impact, etc.

Over 300 million americans will suffer because of the selfish actions of the real estate industry the past 7 years. I feel pretty comfortable comparing them to some of the evilest groups in history. If you don't like that, there's an easy solution for you: Hit the "ignore" button.

"NO, your opinions are too repugnant and your attitude too repugnant to be ignored. They must be repudiated. You must be repudiated."

And this repudiation will start when? You are simply a single-issue shill trying to fan the flames of some long-ago grievance. You will repudiate no one. You will simply hit the "report abuse" button, because Oprah told you "we are all victims of abuse". The mods, if they are mature, will shake their heads but take little other action. Whether you like it or not, maligning a group of no-gooders as "nazi-like" has become part of the culture. Or did you stay up late writing letters to NBC when Seinfeld ran the "Soup Nazi" episode? Calling an organized group of thugs "nazis" has become generic, much like band-aids or tissues or googling. It makes the very point you are trying to make - these were some seriously evil dudes! But rather than accept it as validation of your argument, you use it as a chance to wallow in self-pity.

I have put you on ignore; my tolerance for scrappy, elderly, single-issue abuse-fanatics is not very high.

Admiral: I find it somewhat humorous that you berated Streetwise for incorrectly using "there" when he or she should have used "their" and then you twice used an apostrophe incorrectly.

A piece of advice: if you're going to attack via grammar, make sure your own is impeccable.

Admiral, you are beyond unbelievable. And funny that you should ignore me instead of having a bit of introspection you continue with your repugnant banter. Nazi's were a long ago grievance? That attitude is pathetic and saddening. You don't like real estate agents, fine, but comparing them to Nazis really shows who you are. A bad individual.

Whatever you say, Street-walker. Oh i'm sorry - did I just offend you? I didn't mean to do that. Please, continue. Oh,you were finished? Well then, allow me to reply:

You give all the signs of being the sort of slimy realtor who chanted the mantra "Buy! Buy! Buy" and encouraged fence sitters to blow their life savings on an egregiously inflated market. I don't know if you are any of those things, I just know that's what you sound like in this and other threads: A realtor (aka, realt-whore).
