Discussion about
The forums are in dire need of a comment moderation system. It's amazing how just a few people are able to ruin the whole place for everyone else. Even more amazing is the amount of dedication some people into their trolling.
It's called freedom of speech. First amendment. If things get really out of hand - you know, inappropriate language used or offensive names called, etc. - there's a 'report abuse' function.
What more do you want? A wrist-slap for every snarky comment? C'mon, get real.
Yes - What we need is more censorship. And more Rumsfeld!
Streeteasy - please block any remotely negative comments about NYC real estate market conditions.
"It's called freedom of speech. First amendment."
argh. amazing that most people don't know what that means. zero relevance to this board.
"please block any remotely negative comments about NYC real estate market conditions"
well of course he didn't say that or anything like it, but its interesting that you assumed he was complaining in that direction.
"well of course he didn't say that or anything like it, but its interesting that you assumed he was complaining in that direction."
It's interesting that you assumed that I assumed anything about his comment. I actually did not. You are the only one who assumed anything. Thanks for playing.
uh huh, nice try
Squid: I love the First Amendment as much as anyone, but to invoke it in response to a call for a moderator on this website is just plain wrong. Pull out your copy of the Constitution and you'll see that it says, in no uncertain terms, "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech...." The important point to recognize is that the phrase "Congress shall make no law" imposes a limitation on the power of Congress, not on the power of the owners of this website (or, generally, any private party that is not acting as an agent of the government).
To be 100% correct, the First Amendment also applies to the States (for reasons that aren't relevant here), but that still doesn't change anything.
Anyway, it's a mistake a ton of people make, so no one should hold it against you. But I would recommend that everyone take an hour or two and read through the Constitution carefully from beginning to end. It's probably one of the most important documents in the world, and, besides, it's pretty interesting.
Agreed 100%. Its one of my pet peeves.... folks who get the first amendment completely backward.
Folks who don't get that NOT allowing streeteasy to choose the content on its own site would be impeding STREETEASY's first amendment rights (that of the other).
Its like complaining that the New York Times is impeding your right to free speech because they won't print your article...
