Discussion about
Maybe I'm in the minority: I have multiple computers in my household, but I don't like the idea of putting them in the bedroom or out in the living room. I'm curious about what the rest of you do, if you don't have a separate office? I'm lucky enough to have a separate office now, but if I bought a place, I might not. Or does everyone just have laptops?
well where else is there to put them? the foyer? kitchen? outside? :) personally my 23in mac takes up a lot of my bedroom, but it is very very central to my daily life, so, I can't imagine putting it any other place :)
My rule is no office and no bookshelves in the living room -- too unsightly. So they're both in my bedroom (the bookshelf in the WIC).
No bookshelves? Wow, I've never thought about that. Although, literature is in the living room, while old textbooks and beach reading are in the office.
Also, I'm starting to think we have too many computers.
I agree - books/bookshelves in the office. Since we only have laptops, computers go anywhere (usually on a couch or coffee table when there's no one over).
agree with alanhart.
I put the "main" pc in the bedroom/office room next to the livingroom - ideally close to where the TV (in the livingroom) is. This allowed me to do minor wall drilling and run HDMI, digital audio and network to the AVR/TV in the living room, w/o anything ugly being exposed in the living room. Note that I used to have wireless media lounge, but now prefer direct hdmi from the main PC.
On top of that I have 2 extra laptops on 54G.
I have a wireless laptop that I carry around and the remaining computers are in a closet. I then remote in to the others from the laptop. If you have a vpn endpoint, you can even vnc in with your iPhone, like some extremists I know, but I haven't tried it :). Obviously won't work for you if one or more of the computers have gargantuan screens for graphic design or some such thing.
