Discussion about
Not exactly RE question: who knows where to find a replacement apartment door peephole/doorbell assembly to replace an old one? You know, the box that goes on the inside of the door that houses a chime assembly that the black button from the outside of the door attaches too? I'm renovating and the old one is unsalvageable and an odd large size from another era made by "Magic Mirror Accessories" which probably hasn't existed for 40 years. I found one at Home Depot that isn't quite right. Looking for other options to deal with the gaping hole through the front door and the need to cover the exterior of the hole with something approximating what the other apartments have. Any ideas where to look? Anyone?....
Take the old one to Gracious Home and see if they have any solutions. You could also try a salvage company.
And another thought... the super of my bldg. often keeps old 'parts' around after people have done renovations. He has a stockpile of original doors, hardware, etc. Perhaps your super might have an old door with door chime languishing in the basement?
Try Olde Good Things, they salvage all sorts of items from buildings.
BTDT. I replaced an icky old peephole with a brand new one from Nutone that was an exact replica.
I believe the model number was MCV309NWHGL.
I also found an antique circa-40s never installed one from the web http://www.tias.com/cgi-bin/showcase-item.cgi?itemKey=3923574629&store=/stores/pickerstreasures
Bingo! It was really bothering me that I couldn't remember quite where I bought the exact replica for my doorchime. Kylewest, you owe me. The company is Auth-Chime, division of AF Florence. And the website is:
http://www.florencemailboxes.com/departments.php?dept=Chimes. The models look to be much larger than the ones sold by HD. Enjoy!
NYC10023: awesome. no matter what i searched, i couldn't get google to pop up the site you posted. thank you SO much!
It was bugging me too, because my searches weren't working (they did circa '04). You need to put in "entry door chime" or something like that instead of "door chime". I'm curious - so Auth-Chime makes an exact replica, no?
It isn't the exact one I have--mine is more deco-y looking, but this'll do I think. I'll just get my hands on one and see. How much can it cost? If I'm wrong, I'll be no worse off--just out a little pocket money.
If you find that you want an exact replacement, you might consider Demolition Depot or a similar recycler.
