Discussion about
I just checked the thread about Stuy Town and read Julia's post about she getting sick. I have no idea if this is someone's bad joke posting in her name. If not, I just wanted to tell her that I am very sorry. You know, at least we happen to live in an age where this epidemic sickness gets cured. All my friends who got it are fine now. You'll be ok. Time is on your side. I don't pray, but I'll add to the universe my best wishes for a fast and easy recovery.

Julia -- I'm very sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I wish you the best in dealing with this, and encourage you to contact Gilda's Club, sooner rather than later. I joined a family support group there when my sister was diagnosed with cancer, and it made the whole thing easier to understand (if that makes little sense at this point, it will soon enough). I'm sure their groups for people dealing with cancer are at least as good as the family groups. It's not annoying "group therapy", but really helps put all the aspects of dealing with it into perspective.

Julia, I know firsthand how overwhelming a diagnosis this can be. In my experience, the most important tasks are first, to reduce, and where possible, to eliminate stress and second, to cultivate and practice care and compassion toward toward yourself. I think you can tell from this thread that you have a chorus of well-wishers on SE.

Julia I am so sorry and add my voice to the chorus of well-wishers and people who will send out vibes for you.

I'm not living in NY right now but if I were to get sick would run back to establish residency and get NY health insurance--pricey but you can't be denied.

You have Memorial Sloan Kettering and other incredible hospitals

I know it's overwhelming. I hope your sister and other family members and friends are around to attempt to take much of the stress off you.

It's so hard to stay positive and keep a sense of humor but you must

And Julia if arguing with people on StreetEasy helps you--then go for it girl

Mimi, thank you for starting this thread.

Julia, things may get nasty here from time to time, but you've got a bunch of people sincerely pulling for you. I know you're a fighter, so stay strong (I LOVED you calling Stuy Town to ask about RS apartments!). Just like real estate, do a lot of your own research and gather info from multiple sources. Add me to the list of people wishing you a speedy recovery.

streeteasy, can you email this link to the address associated with her account? It looks like she hasn't posted for a number of days and we all hope she'll see this.

Julia, what a blessing it is for one to know how many people one's life has touched! In every adversity one faces, there is a greater good. If all this good will is coming from people who have never met you, can you imagine what warmth is surrounding you from people who know and love you. Wrap yourself in it, let it lift your spirits. You will be fine.

Just wanted to bump the thread and see if anyone has heard from Julia. Btw, there was a Julia on the SE Facebook fan page but I can't seem to get back there (I'm not a Facebook person), perhaps someone who is on Facebook can find it, figure out if its the same Julia and figure out how to contact her so we can send our greetings and wishes.

Hi Julia,

I hope Wednesday brought good news, and if not that then at least some resolution of the waiting and uncertainty. As lo888 pointed out, melanoma is among the types of cancer that's highly treatable these days.

Let us know how you're doing when you're up for it.

Julia, I have been on vacation and I missed this entirely. My thoughts and prayers are with you. As I have noted on another thread, cancer not only runs in my family, it races marathons. The success rates have been mixed, but more than not have survived (and with a forty-year time frame, although the successes have increased over time).

My brother had a melanoma (large, very, won't give details) removed from his head 20 years ago. He still is full of the piss and vinegar.

If you feel up to it, please share any news. We're behind you 200%. You go girl.

Hope Wednesday brought good news. Streeteasy loves you!

Hey Julia, I'm delighted to hear that it's only squamous-cell . . . much less evil. I'm great that you caught it and are on top of it, in any event. Pat yourself on the back and try to unwind from the stress of it all.
