This meticulously restored and maintained brownstone was designed by Thom & Wilson for the developers John T. and James A. Farley in 1890. Built in a suave and reserved Renaissance style, 131 West 71st has truly unique and elegant details, all of which have been perfectly restored to their original beauty. The grand stoop of this brownstone leads one through impressive oak doors and into an oak paneled entryfoyer with an exquisite inlaid floor and original mahogany mirror. The impressive original staircase is showcased here. The formal parlor with its delicate lincrusta frieze and mahogany woodwork spills into an oak wainscoted livingroom with coffered ceiling and magnificent wood burning fireplace. Dramatic Greek Key bordered floors have been fully restored and the original pocket doors separate the rooms. A sweeping elliptical rear staircase sunlit by a 16ft leaded glass window leads you to the formal dining room, kitchen and garden below.

The garden is wonderfully private and landscaped with a gas grill. It is peaceful and sheltered from wind and gets excellent light.
