Discussion about
We are looking to totally renovate a 550sf alcove studio in Murray Hill. I had the contractor that worked on the building lobby come by for an estimate, but it's been a week and he hasn't bothered to send me an estimate. I need some recommendations on good guys that won't take advantage and can do an good job. Not look for high end, just looking to update an old unit. Any advice, tips or help is greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Email me at otnyc1@gmail.com - I can put you in touch with our guy. He did a fantastic job. Not the lowest bid we got, but was in the middle of 4 estimates, and finished on time and within budget.

You also might want to consider finding a contractor on Angies List (www.angieslist.com) where you can view feedback from others.

I just did some renovation work to my studio - my contactor was great, showed up every day, and did all the work on time. His name is Bobby and you can reach him at 201-978-6444 - his price was also very good. Tell him Phyllis from E. 74th recommended him. Good luck

we are just finishing up a major gut reno - our contractor is amazing as are his workers - he lives in manhattan and gets the whole co-op/condo thing and his pricing was unbelievable. - truly. New York French Contracting - 347-993-2838 - his name is Jean David.

In fact my decorator is now using him for all of her jobs - he is easy to talk to and "gets it".

Good luck with the reno

EB, every contractor in the city should know how to get the papers ready. It is very easy, 1st thing is call your management company and get your alteration agreement. It will tell you everythig you need

I know this is late but if you haven't already found someone, we were very happy with the work our contractor did--just bought a 2br 2bth co-op in Brooklyn Heights--we could not afford a full renovation (will gut kitchen and 2 bathrooms in a couple of years)--so had the entire apt. skim coated, re-grouted 2 bathrooms, and had parquet floors re-finished. Pablo was recommended to us by a friend in the building (co-op in Brooklyn Heights). The workmanship was top notch and the crew was super professional. Results far exceeded our expectations and we would recommend him without reservation. He can be reached at 646-642-6506.
