http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=14364613 Does it affect all floors the same?
@Riversider - Are you for real? Effecting sales?
course not...
lol, i knew something like this was going to be posted. That was crazy.
hahahah
sales effect? would you rather be in a reinforced steel building anchored to Granite schist or a wooden structure? Either way you're a goner if both come crashing down.
all apartments in low rises go up in price and high-rises go down in price. 1st floor apartments become the new 50th floor apartments. ;)
This earthquake will cause sales to slow and prices to drop for the rest of 2011. Now watch and see.
West34..ya look what happened after 9-11, Sales just plummeted huh?
NYErs are a bunch of sissies. 5.8 earthquake? Californians are laughing their butt off. To them that is the equivalent of a fat person jumping up and down in the middle of the 405.
The Japanese are laughing at us they have hangovers worse then this....
Steve - step away from your computer, look around, check the floor - your sense of humor is around there somewhere.
What hit the NYC area was a 2 - 3 earthquake relatively speaking, said CNBC.
West34...I'll have to move my money away.....ahh, ugh,ahh...there!...oh you're right...there it is!
what's to move? you have less money than you have sense of humor or brains, for that matter
That's why I love New York..Riversider is so funny...
heil huntersburg!
Wbottom....shush go way....
Dow up 100 pts after quake......let Bob Pisani try and figure this one out.
my second floor walk up just went deep in the money
marco, actually townhouses/low rises are the most vulnerable..sorry. Do some research.

Here's a good overview: http://www.nycem.org
Thanks Julia :)
Shak'in it up
Laugh it up everyone. When you wake up tomorrow, all listings in Manhattan will be $500 per square foot. Wait and see.
tornado in brooklyn last year, earthquake this year. you know the tsunami is next, right?
Prime Manhattan buildings on CPW, Park and Fifth will hold their values. 1950s bungalows in the Rockaways will be devastated. It will vary neighborhood by neighborhood, street by street, building by building, even apartment by apartment. Gays will move into buildings built on bedrock. The poor will be crowded into swampier lands. Mortgage rates will go either up or down or maybe stay the same, so it all depends on the employment figures, which are always manipulated by those who report it. So let's wait for an oil spill and see what happens.
I think there could be a minor effect. There are some who don't like the higher floors and the feeling of movement. Today's quake may make those even less inclined to buy on the highest floors.
Property values in Mendham, NJ have all plummeted by 50% due to the presence of Chris Christie and the strong possibility of an 8.0 earthquake anytime he jumps up and down.
>Today's quake may make those even less inclined to buy on the highest floors.
Unlikely. Ask people on top floors of buildings if they were really moved today.
And in a week, no one will remember.
heil huntersburg.
Why thank you!
mein fuhrer.
Now that IS strange.
Are you having a flashback to your time in the Hitler Youth?
Let me help you out - the year is TWO THOUSAND ELEVEN. TWO THOUSAND plus TEN plus ONE. HITLER IS DEAD. COLUMBIACOUNTY IS BALD, NOT A SKINHEAD.
but...
what about you?
relentless.
unforgiving.
the ultimate avenger.
Oh good, your nurse medicated you.
oh brilliant.
fucking brilliant.
way to go.
