Street-easy is a good source to find townhouses and single family homes for sale, however it is lacking inventory as far as "apartment buildings" for sale.
It's a different industry. If you check masseyknakal.com, easternconsolidated.com and besenassociates.com you'll have covered most of it.
I have been a property manager and broker for over 10 years and am currently helping a few people from this board find investment properties in Manhattan. If you would like me to contact you, leave your info here.
While SE has made the DIY search for apartments much easier, the same is not true for the investment property market. Most good (for a buyer) deals are not going to show up anywhere online. They are going to be quietly emailed and faxed from listing brokers to owners who they have existing relationships with. We (owners/managers) often times then act as the buyers broker if we know of someone else looking for an investment. More often than not, the listings you see on the big brokerage company websites are being bid on by corporations, funds and international types paying all cash which you will not even be able to compete with.
There are also many more facets to buildings. IMO, it would be foolish for anyone to look for an investment property without their own experienced broker. You would be amazed at some of the things which I have caught (on deal sheets, at physical inspections etc.) that would have slipped right by someone who didn't know....
Mav do you know any buildings that are mixed residential and commercial on the UES?
I hear there's a place called Stuyvesant Town that might be available.... also another place called The Apthorp....
