Thread Removal with neither explanation nor obvious reason

Somebody posted FSBO, which is probably not allowed by Streeteasy, and would clog up the boards if it were.

Then somebody(ies) who has no life proceeded to attack the OP, as if he were an effigy that represents all sellers in the market, instead of providing sympathetic and helpful advice as to pricing and positioning realities.

Mixed in were some useful discussions about the immediate neighborhood, which would be much more useful in a separate "Thinking of Living In..." thread.

However, if someone does post an apartment for whatever reason , and unless and until it is taken down, then I don't see any thing wrong with posting in response with issues and points of view about rent price maint. etc. Otherwise it would just be a classified ad. So I don't think it is fair to say "get a life" if one raises such questions. In fact, that apartment seemed like a pretty good example of economics seeming out of whack..but maybe I am wrong about that..and I honestly like to see a debate. To me, the more i read on this, the more convinced I am that in fact high monthly charges in a falling rent market is seriously going to damage the capital value of such units.

I posted a somewhat facetious sentence about how the truth will hurt that seller...but honestly..if the facts are bad for his apartment, the facts are bad.

But I suppose someone else might post an entirely differnt point of view , about how this is still a great time to get in on the ground floor in harlem. Again, if a specific apartment is in a thread, then people are entitled to debate the merits of the price asked.

i meant what i said at the beginning. disturbing that SE decides to remove threads with no explanation. don't think its in the spirit of this space. feels a little like taking the bat and ball home.

StreetEasy deletes posts for no reason at all. If you call them out on it in a post, they will delete that too. They are cowards. So again I will ask, StreetEasy, can you please explain why you delete people's posts for no reason without an explanation? Also, instead of just deleting what I am saying now, can you explain why you are going to delete it this time? I expect this to be deleted shortly with no explanation, we shall see if I'm right...

I am against censorship but in defense of StreetEasy, this is their website and they can do whatever they want. It's not like this is the New York Times or some other journalistic website which have to be fair with all opinions welcomed. The owner of this website wanted to provide a medium to exchange useful information for buyers and sellers. It was not meant as a forum for nasty comments or attacks on someone who was clearly identified both by name and address.

You can argue he foolishly set himself up with his constant and argumentative responses but the thread deviated many times from it's informational value by many of the undignified and angry posters.

If you don't like that it's been removed then go set up your own webpage and do as you wish. No one is stopping you.

and one other thing before I sign off. Hats off to upperwestrenter, anyone who wakes up on the wrong side of the bed AT 4:00PM, IN THE AFTERNOON. Earned the right to be a bit cranky!

I generally abhor censorship but the many sites will edit you for just saying "shit" and SE at least acknowledges that the readership here is likely to be 100% adult. So I don't think its necessarily wrong when they rid the site of threads that have descended (or in a few cases started) into vicious, racist/homophobic comments and name calling. I mean does anyone think Rufus added anything to anyone's knowledge base or to the overall discourse on NY RE and (some sometimes vaugely) associated issues.

patient09, the subtext to your last post is all about the name of the group that sang it. Can you tell us what that name is? Sure you can.

so...bottom line? they yanked it and the hell with anyone else?

they probably yanked it cause it was an advertisement which they don't allow. larry's (407PAS) thread was more a "hey i am having an open house that i can't post on streteasy since it FSBO". that fifth ave thread was more an "i am already a broker and i have this listing i love thread". i think that is not allowed on here for sure. i know people have said this already but i see a clear difference between the two threads. although i still think censorship is lame i also think brokers advertising their listings is lame and would get really tired very fast if streeteasy allowed them all to do it.

so...a fast explanation would not only help my paranoia but prevent improper postings in the future. yet nothing. paranoia reigns for me (unfortunately).

i understand columbiacounty. but i think they are pretty lax here. i post on a few comic book nerdy web forums and the conspiracies there outdo streeteasy a thousand-fold. they are always deleting posts.
