witnessed some of this and felt for those who live in this building. characters made this building feel like an nyu dorm. strangers wondering the falls off their heads. really unfortunate if you have kids. http://curbed.com/archives/2008/05/28/a_building_pool_party_report_drugs_booze_everywhere.php#more

"our building had its first pool party this weekend and i thought you would enjoy. the disastrous combo of hedge fund guys, gay guys, and hipsters caused massive combustion resulting in the cops coming, fdny as well, the roof trashed, drugs, booze everywhere and some random people shitting in our gym. i stopped by for a couple hours and saw the disaster in the making! i'm sure you'll read about it in curbed soon. it was one of those 'only in ny' moments."

tenemental, any inside scoop? You weren't the guy shitting in the gym were you?

tenemental is way to busy crapping all over this board complaining about overpriced apts and the daily declines in Manhattan RE prices. So I doubt he has any crap left in him to do it in the gym of the A building. I love this guy.

Hey now, JuiceMan, public relief isn't for everybody.

houser, I just call them as I see them. You're welcome to try and refute any of my points or analyses. Sorry of if market developments are causing you intestinal distress.

This disaster of a building continues the saga.

"flooding, crumbling balconies, alleged mismanagement of the condo board's funds and two unresponsive developers who have left owners banging their heads against mold-ridden walls, claim several residents who forwarded dozens of documents detailing these issues to The Real Deal."

I did see the penthouse listing in this building fairly recently and it is as small as you can make a 2bed 2 1/2 bath.
It is all south facing so I assume the unbelievable sunlight is killing whatever mold may be making it's way around the building.
But the asking price makes me think the owner is infected.

Anyway, sounds like a lot of pain for those living there now.

LOLOLOL.

Well, you people wanted the freedom of living in a CONDO, whose "board" is about as powerful as a declawed kitten.

When you're ready to grow up and live live like an adult, you might want to consider a CO-OP.

Just sayin'.

Im not sure what your meaning is Matt.
What remedies if any are there any different if this was a newly constructed COOP?

Or are your comments strictly on the past behavior aspects of the owners and their guests.

Buying an apartment is a risk-free, can't lose proposition. That's why you should get no risk premium for your capital in ownership.

Truthskr10,

"our building had its first pool party this weekend and i thought you would enjoy. the disastrous combo of hedge fund guys, gay guys, and hipsters caused massive combustion resulting in the cops coming, fdny as well, the roof trashed, drugs, booze everywhere and some random people shitting in our gym. "

My "meaning" here is that if this were a co-op, the board could revoke proprietary leases and evict problem shareholders.

In a CONDO, however -- welcome to the neighborhood! Don't like it? MOVE.

Well we haven't read about any shenanigans since so it appears the condo board did just fine....

If I read this correctly, "random people" [shitting in our gym] means they were neither hedge fund guys nor gay guys nor hipsters.

Lesbians? Those mad men of Madison Avenue? Anabaptists? People who comprise all of those fine qualities rolled into one?

Maybe they were caveman dieters out "hunting & gathering". When you are on the hunt and have to go, you have to go.

This is exactly why you need to know your neighbor. Living in the same place as people with different values is wrong for your family.

do you really consider alphabet city a "prime" neighbhorhood if you have children?
prime if the only trousers you own are jeans where people can see the outline of your balls maybe

This is like the equivalent to the 90W discussion on rentals. You had GOT to have know what you were getting into here. Maybe you didn't expect the construction problems, but booze, drugs ... it's called rich spoiled kids in alphabet city with a doorman to protect them from the real city.

actually the booze & drugs reputation is currently untrue. this building has gotten a lot better. and believe me, i was never a fan of this place. the 1st post is talking about the opening weekend of the pool -- 2 years ago to date on memorial day weekend. tenants still moving in, no rules -- there WAS a party where everyone in the east village showed up. but things have changed and this building is full on its way to health. as for construction issues, sponsor AND management are a**holes for sure -- but show me one new construction that isn't sorting out similar problems. long term prognosis of A Building - i say looking good.
