Once considered the center of South Brooklyn, Columbia Street Waterfront District was separated from its neighbors by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Today, after a long rehabilitation effort, trendy restaurants, live poultry markets, mom-and-pop vintage stores and boutiques line the neighborhood’s center, Columbia Street. Old manufacturing buildings are being converted into residential buildings and numerous three-to-five story row houses and brownstones are also available. Note that Columbia Street Waterfront District is at least half a mile away from any subway station.
