Walking through Kips Bay, you would not necessarily realize you were in Kips Bay, a neighborhood that mostly lacks distinction from its northern neighbor, Murray Hill. Rebuilt in patches, the neighborhood is a combination of new high-rise apartments and old condominium complexes. Attracted by its ease of access to other neighborhoods and high safety record, Kips Bay residents enjoy relatively low rents and housing prices. The neighborhood is well-populated by bars and has a diversity of restaurants, although not everyone loves the more frat-style bars on Third Avenue. There is a strip of NYU institutions and hospitals on the eastern side of the neighborhood. Overall, Kips Bay is a fairly convenient, low-key place to live.
