It’s not often that we see deals in Chelsea. The neighborhood’s prices have only risen over the last couple of decades, and for good reason. The neighborhood is home to staples like the High Line and Chelsea Market in addition to great museums, art galleries, trendy dining, and shopping. Our Deal of the Week, 345 W. 21st St. #4D, is a one bedroom on a tree-lined street, complete with a wood-burning fireplace!

The Price: $549,000

The median asking price for a home in Chelsea was $2.7 million this August according to the StreetEasy Data Dashboard. That means our Deal of the Week is priced at less than a fifth of the median asking price for the neighborhood!

Buyers who choose the 20% minimum down payment of $109,800 can expect to see monthly payments of $3,931. This includes a mortgage payment of $2,662 and a maintenance fee of $1,269. It’s also far less than the median asking rent for the nabe, which sat at $5,283 this August!

Why You’ll Love It…

This unit is super impressive for various reasons, one of them being that it features the largest floorplan of the whole building! The apartment utilizes it well with a spacious living room, separate kitchen, and ample storage space. You’ll find one closet in the entryway perfect for coats, linens, and cleaning supplies, in addition to two in the queen-size bedroom, all of which include overhead space for larger items.

The apartment also boasts hardwood floors, 9-foot ceilings, and through-wall air conditioning for good temperature control during the summer. Don’t worry about winters, either: the wood-burning fireplace in the living room can help keep you warm! Its brick facade also provides a great centerpiece for the room, which is large enough for both living and dining furniture. Plus, south-facing windows ensure you’ll have great light throughout the whole day.

The bathroom has been updated in the last year with a new vanity and white subway tile for a clean, relaxing feel. While the kitchen hasn’t been updated as recently, it does feature a full-size fridge, oven, and range.

And of course, we need to talk about the location. This unit is situated in a brick townhome on a quiet tree-lined street between 8th and 9th Avenues. Public space like the High Line and Hudson River Park are just a couple of blocks away, as are great restaurants and bars like Cookshop, Bathtub Gin, and Artichoke Basille’s Pizza. Transportation-wise, the unit has easy access to the A, C, E, L, and 1 trains.

…And Why You Might Not

Sadly, this co-op doesn’t allow pets, so this would only be a good home for those without furry family members. The apartment is also on the fourth floor of a five-story walk-up building. There doesn’t appear to be laundry in the building, but there is a laundromat nearby on 23rd Street. The kitchen is also on the older side, but a few new touches could bring it back to life.

With all that said, it will be hard to find as great of an apartment in Chelsea at this price point!
