chelsea loft - rental of the week

Our Rental of the Week offers an industrial-chic look mixed with modern conveniences.

Calling an apartment “full of character” is often code for “old,” “impractical,” or “never been renovated.” And homes that retain some old-school character mixed with modern upgrades can be exorbitantly expensive! That’s what makes our Rental of the Week special. This Chelsea loft studio has a funky, industrial vibe thanks to its full wall of exposed brick, original wood ceiling beam, and iron staircase. But it’s also got a slick high-end kitchen and modern bathroom, all for well under the neighborhood median. Take a look!

Address: 100 W. 15th St. #3A

Price: $2,400

Size: studio

Neighborhood: Chelsea

Best feature: This is no cookie-cutter apartment! Like the vibrant neighborhood it’s in, this Chelsea loft has personality. The brick, original beam, and industrial staircase bring the funk, while the huge windows and supertall ceilings keep it feeling open and airy. And that lofted sleeping space is bigger than many NYC bedrooms — more than 130 square feet. It even boasts a sizable closet, with two more big closets downstairs. The sleek kitchen is equipped with high-end European appliances.

Why it’s a deal: Chelsea is one pricey neighborhood — the median rent for a studio here is $3,000. At $2,400 per month, this Chelsea loft studio is actually $600 per month below average for the area! And it has a lot more going for it than your typical, boring white-box space.

Biggest drawback: Some people will dig the lofted sleeping area, and some most definitely will not — particularly not people with mobility issues. (Or a fear of heights!) The listing specifies 13-foot ceilings overall, but it does not state what the clearance is up there, so it’s not clear whether you could stand comfortably. And the windows, while big and south-facing, don’t offer much of a view at all.
