It’s no secret that Manhattan rents are way down. While the pandemic is horrific in just about every way, this fact is a silver lining of sorts for NYC renters. Many people can now afford to live in neighborhoods they were priced out of just last year. Our Rental of the Week is a perfect example. This bright, beautiful Hell’s Kitchen 2BR boasts in-unit laundry, a fantastic kitchen, and queen-size bedrooms. And it’s now renting for over $1,000 per month less than it was in 2019.

Address: 359 W. 54th St. #6FS

Price: $2,200

Size: 2-bedroom

Neighborhood: Hell’s Kitchen

Best feature: Hell’s Kitchen is a hot neighborhood, with restaurants galore and easy access to Central Park and the Theater District. There’s also some fun history — this Hell’s Kitchen 2BR is on West 54th Street, just steps from where the legendary Studio 54 was! Imagine all the famous faces that have graced this block.

The apartment itself is a beauty, with gleaming hardwood floors and sunlight streaming in through big windows. Bedrooms are split for privacy, and both can accommodate a queen-size bed. The bathroom is updated with marble tile. And the kitchen is bright and fully equipped, including a dishwasher and an under-counter washer/dryer. Inset exposed-brick detailing throughout adds character.

Why it’s a deal: This neighborhood is a submarket of Midtown West, where the median asking price is $2,900, according to StreetEasy’s Data Dashboard. That puts our Rental of the Week at $700 per month below average for the area. In addition, this apartment was renting for $3,392 in 2019 — a “pandemic discount” of more than $1K per month.

Biggest drawback: Nothing’s perfect! Yes, this Hell’s Kitchen 2BR is a walkup – and a sixth-floor one at that. It’s a lot of stairs, no doubt. We suggest listening to some disco and treating that daily cardio workout like you’re dancing the night away at Studio 54. And hey, it does have a washer/dryer, so at least you won’t have to haul your laundry up and down all those stairs.
