In July of 2020, as reported by Page Six and other outlets, an entire block in Brooklyn Heights was shut down for a huge crane. Many spotted furniture being lifted up to a penthouse home atop the Standish in Brooklyn Heights. The haul reportedly included several trees to landscape the unit’s expansive terrace. That’s right, all New Yorkers crave outdoor space at home — even celebrities! The 6,000-square-foot penthouse in question is the family home of superstar actor Matt Damon.

Apparently, it took an entire year for Damon to close on the home. The final price for the conglomerate of top-floor units was $16.745 million. That makes it the highest price paid for residential real estate in Brooklyn to date.
About the Standish
Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group handled sales of the Standish condo redevelopment. The renovated former hotel that Matt Damon now calls home is pitched as the place “where the essence of the Beaux-Arts movement meets the advances of the twenty-first century.”

When the building opened its doors in 1903, it was known as the Standish Arms Hotel, offering “understated luxury in an era of opulent mansions.” Coincidentally, the Williamsburg Bridge made its debut that same year, creating new accessibility to Brooklyn. According the building’s website, “the spacious, comfortable accommodations appealed to the most discerning visitors. For more than a century, as Brooklyn Heights itself grew and matured, this storied hotel has retained the classic, quiet elegance of turn-of-the-century New York.”

Developed by Westbrook Partners and DDG, the Standish is a 12-story building with 29 residences. It offers a slew of amenities and is right on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. It also boasts sweeping views of New York Harbor and the Manhattan skyline.
