Curious which NYC apartments seemed to attract the most attention in 2015? We were too and we found that people went after apartments that were alluring in a variety of ways — especially in price. There were a couple of only-in-NYC rentals that caught the fancy of the city, including a Chinatown rental with a shower in the kitchen and a ridiculous Lincoln Square one-room unit measuring 100 square feet — but otherwise, it was business as usual.
Without further ado, here are the most popular sales and rental listings for 2015:
Sold: $689K – 1-Bedroom on Upper West Side (Below)
When will you ever find a prewar penthouse apartment on the Upper West Side with its own private terrace for under $700K? Maybe once and perhaps this was it.
In Contract: $575K – 1-Bedroom in Sutton Place (Below)
Ignore the French Regency style and get a load of the space (1,100 sq ft), the asking price ($575K) and the location (Sutton Place) and you’ve got an incredible apartment on your hands.
Sold: $560K – 1-Bedroom in SoHo (Below)
Tin ceilings, exposed brick, hardwoods and a cozy layout would be enough for any popular neighborhood in New York, but put it on Sullivan Street in SoHo and watch the popularity meter go through the roof.

Rented: $1,100 – One room in Lincoln Square (Below)
What rental attracted the most attention in 2015? This one — which is perhaps the most ridiculous rental of 2015 — only because it is only 100 sq ft and it rented for $1,100 to a young chef who just arrived in New York and needed a place to hang his hat. We’ll give him a pass, but just this one time.
Rented: $1,650 — One-Bathroom in Lincoln Square (Below)
Yes — another Lincoln Square apartment that caught everyone’s attention. While the listing description didn’t reveal whether this is a one-bedroom or a studio or what, people liked it enough to make it the second-most popular rental for 2015.
Rented: $2,000 – One room in Murray Hill (Below)
It looks like NYC is getting creative with the shared apartment concept. This unit is described as a private bedroom in a shared apartment, which means you share the bathroom and kitchen with another renter who has their own, private bedroom.
