“Arn Tellem Takes Manhattan” may not grab the headlines like when the New York Knicks signed Jeremy Lin or the Mets inked slugger Yoenis Cespedes to a long-term deal, but it ought to be.
Between “Jerry McGuire” bringing sports agent Leigh Steinberg’s life to the big screen and Scott Boras earning infamy for driving sports star salaries into the stratosphere (Think Alex Rodriguez setting a record with his $252 million deal with the Texas Rangers years ago) Tellem was another titan of the player rep business who amassed a stable of some of the best NBA and Major League Baseball talent. He built a lucrative sports agency career by promoting stars like former pitcher Mark Langston and NBA All-Star Reggie Miller to Hideki Matsui (NY Yankees) and Jalen Rose (Detroit Pistons).
Tellem wrote about it for Sports Illustrated last year. But now, in addition to a new career challenge in Detroit, the 62-year-old sports executive and his wife have made New York City part of their orbit. The couple paid $7.3 million for a sprawling condo at 10 Madison Square West. The 17th-floor unit’s sale was first reported by The Real Deal.
Tellem and his wife have bought into a 1915 building that was known as the Toy Center, which recently underwent a thorough renovation to deliver 125 high-end condo units in the heart of the Flatiron District overlooking Madison Square Park.
The white brick and limestone building at 10 Madison Square West was redeveloped by Goldstein, Hill & West Architects. In addition to the 125 units that range from 1 to 5 bedrooms, the building includes amenities like a private residents’ club; a fitness center managed by The Wright Fit; a 60-ft lap pool; hot tub; yoga studio and Pilates studios. This full-service building includes 24-hour doorman and concierge, along with a children’s playroom, private storage, bike storage, courtyard garden, porter, and live-in resident manager.
