153 Mercer Street

Built in 1879 and attributed to architect Henry Martyn Congdon, 153 Mercer Street is a defining example of SoHo’s nineteenth-century cast-iron architecture. Designed in the Neo-Grec style, the five-story structure features a cast-iron storefront with fluted columns and corner pilasters, red brick upper stories with limestone trim, and a bracketed iron cornice that gives the building its timeless character. Its design reflects the craftsmanship and industrial artistry that established SoHo as one of the most architecturally significant neighborhoods in New York City.
