About

Built in 1930, this elegant building designed by Rosario Candela is considered one of his finest works. The New York Observer once called it “the most pedigreed building on the snobbiest street in the country’s most real estate obsessed city.” 834 Fifth Avenue is located on 64th Street and features a limestone-clad façade and art deco details throughout. It has a full time doorman, sidewalk landscaping, elevator attendants, a courtyard garden and a grand canopied entrance.

Architecture critic Paul Goldberger writes, “[t]he windows are vast, not so much out of a desire to bring light in as because the rooms themselves are immense and the windows are scaled to them.” The co-op gained recent international fame when Rupert Murdoch paid $44 million for the apartment formerly owned by Laurance Rockefeller. At the time, it was the largest amount paid in New York City history for a cooperative apartment. The 834 Fifth Rockefeller apartment contained twenty rooms spread over 8,000 square feet of interior space and 4,000 square feet of terraces. Pets allowed. No financing. 3% transfer fee paid by buyer.
